Head of LTE Research, Development, Testing & EvaluationNIST, USA
Emil Olbrich is currently the Head of RDT&E with the U.S. Department of Commerce NIST Office of Law Enforcement Standards working on broadband initiatives and supporting the Public Safety Communications Research (PSCR) program. Mr. Olbrich leads the PSCR LTE research, development, implementation, testing and evaluation activities for public safety communications. Currently he is leading the technical team in the engineering design, implementation, testing and evaluation of the entire LTE ecosystem - from devices to base stations to packet core to applications. Additionally Mr. Olbrich participates in standards and requirements work within ATIS, GSMA, NPSTC and 3GPP and leads the LTE interoperability and conformance testing efforts for PTCRB and ETSI. Prior to this position he was Principle Consultant with Protiro Inc. working at the Institute for Telecommunication Sciences (ITS) in Boulder, CO supporting the PSCR and NIST OLES teams. Mr. Olbrich has over 18 years of experience in the field of wireless telecommunications. He has worked primarily in R&D at some of the largest telecommunication companies in the world, such as Motorola, Qualcomm and Ericsson. This work included managing CDMA base station development; the nationwide 3G trials in China and the cellular network deployment for the 2002 SLC Winter Olympics. Additionally, Mr. Olbrich has been a guest speaker at Mobile World Congress, LTE World Summit, LTE North America, International Wireless Communications Expo and the Association of Public Safety Communications Officials conferences
