Pre-Conference Afternoon Workshop B – Monday 17th May  2010

Bringing  SON to Life: The Design, Implementation and Installation of a Centralized LTE SON System
Led by: Actix

Workshop Overview:

With falling revenues and high network costs, operators are forced to reduce OPEX while investing in new technologies and solutions. Constantly growing multi-technology and multi-vendor networks have become more complex than ever before and significant network planning and management effort is needed to ensure satisfactory end user experience. This effort can be minimized with implementation of Self-Organizing Networks (SON) which enables operators to simplify network operation and extend their network in plug & play manner.

Who Will Benefit From Taking Part?

This workshop is designed for anyone that has an interest in learning more about SON and the benefits associated with deploying it. This workshop covers a mix of technical and strategic aspects SON, the rational of deploying SON in the network and the potential ROI. Everyone from a technical engineer to a CTO should be interested in learning more about SON and how it is shaping the future on network planning and design in the industry.

Agenda:

13:30 Registration

Terminology and Key Components for Self Organizing Networks

    • Initial optimization, operational optimization and operational healing
    • Examining a distributed, centralized  and hybrid model for SON
    • Building a network that can manage its resources so that optimal network quality and performance is achieved
    • Key areas of automated deployment of new base stations
    • Multi-technology and multi-vendor solutions

The Business Case for SON – Can we do Without It?

    • Why is SON a hot topic in the telecoms industry?
    • Where does SON have an impact on network costs and what is the scale of that impact?
    • When will those savings for operators materialize and in what way?
    • Quantifying the expected ROI from SON

Examining the Implementation Architecture and Installation Strategies

    • Platforms, modules, interfaces
    • Key components: automatic data  handling, correlation, diagnosis, solution finding, reporting and orchestration  of outbound commands
    • Manual intervention when needed to solve complex problems
    • Planning and deployment of a Self Organising Network: step-by-step or all at once?
    • Enabling operators to  simplify network operation and extend their network in plug and play manner

Demonstration of 3GPP/NGMN use Cases From a live Centralized LTE SON System

    • Traffic overload, cell outage, energy saving, frequency re-assignments
    • Several more of the 43 use cases examples and sub-use cases

17:00 End of Workshop
